Joanne Lynn Brooks (2 Jul 1951 - 21 Oct 2014)

Joanne died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as a result of complications from a heart attack.

She was born in Raleigh and resided in Wilmington for eight years prior to her death. She was a Girl Scout camp ranger at Camps Homestead and Pretty Pond and was an active member of the Girl Scouts for 25 years. In Wilmington she was a substitute teacher at several schools, including Forest Hills Elementary School. She was a member of Port City Community Church. 

Joanne had a zest for life and always found the brightest moments in every day. She was full of love and positivity. Her favorite things were her children, her family, her friends, the beach, seashells and anything outdoors.

She is survived by her children, William Brooks of Manteo, NC and Joslyn Mereness of Miami, Florida; her siblings, Tom Brooks of Raleigh, NC, Mary Brooks of Boulder, CO and Susan Cavanagh of Raleigh, NC and her nephews and nieces, Paul, Kristin, Bert, Bill, Laurel, and Ashley. 

A celebration of life was held at Hugh MacRae Park in Wilmington, NC on November 22, 2014. Relatives and friends were welcomed to attend this potluck from 12 to 4 PM.      Submitted By: Brenda Love Gaffney
