Brenda Love (Gaffney)

Mary Catherine MacNair Midyette  (3 Jul 1951 - 3 Apr 2011)

Catherine was the third of six children born to Joan McIntyre MacNair and Colin MacNair. She attended Needham B Broughton High School, St. Mary's College and NCSU.

Catherine loved outdoor activities, whether on land or water. She was an accomplished life-long equestrienne, riding for many years in Dressage and Hunter-Jumper competitions. She was a competitive swimmer early in life and carried her love of water into sailing, water skiing, windsurfing and SCUBA diving. Catherine loved to travel and organized many international trips with her family. She was an avid gardner and grew much of the vegetables her family enjoyed in the warm seaons. Catherine was a hositality specialist. Her extended family and friends were for many years the lucky beneficiary of her ease for entertaining in her homes in Raleigh and Morehead City.

Catherine's focus was always family. She built a life around loving and supporting her husband, children, siblings, nieces, nephews, in-laws and out-laws. She loved them all and spent her days planning her next opportunity to express that love. In her last months she was remarkable for the unreasonable grace, calm, comfort and understanding she offered those around her, friends and family alike.

Catherine is survived by her husband, William Carlton Midyette, Jr., her children William Carlton Midyette III and Catherine Rosalie Midyette; sisters Joan MacNair Petty and Caroline MacNair Carl; and brothers Colin MacNair, Jr., Henry Knox MacNair, and John Alan MacNair. She also leaves behind an unusually large number of friends, some she has know for 50 years.
